Creating your own CNC project from Start to Finish!

Date:
Mon, 03/17/2014 - 6:00pm to Sun, 03/01/2015 - 6:00pm

Learn by doing: CNC Work Flow - Creating your own CNC project (up to a 4’ by 8’ area!) from Start to Finish!

Time: Weeknights and Weekends available. Contact to schedule a time.

In a one-to-one class setting, students will learn how to create an object with a CNC Machine using freely available software. We will start by using the CAD (computer aided drafting) Software Draftsight to accurately draw a part. You will learn how to create a dimensionally accurate drawing and what drawing requirements are necessary for successful progression to a CAM (computer aided manufacturing) software. CAMBAM will be used to generate the tool path information from the file created in Draftsight. Tools, tool path types and tool path previews will be covered. The tool paths will be used to generate a g-code file. LinuxCNC software will be used to control the CNC Machine based on the information in the g-code file.

Three CNC Machines are available for use:
- Engraver with 4 inch by 4 inch work envelope
- Milling Machine with 6 inch by 8 inch work envelope
- CNC Router with 4 foot by 8 foot work envelope

This is your class, you will learn by making your project!

Some project ideas are as follows: rubber stamps, keychains, brackets, signs.

Common general material can be provided based on the requested project.
