Multirotor Workshop

Meetup Events - Sun, 02/15/2015 - 12:25pm

CT Hackerspace & Makerspace

Cost: Free    Ages 13&up     14-Mar-2015 2pm @ CT Hackerspace

We have successfully built a Quadcopter. It's an H-frame, loosely following the free plans made available from Flite Test. We used spare parts that people had kicking around and purchased a low-cost KK2 flight controller.

Last meeting we got the Quadcopter to fly. We spent a little bit of time changing the settings to make it fly better, and it did. We have a little bit more to do with tuning the software and tidying up the build. We will focus on that this coming workshop.

Because we will have power tools tooling and Multi-Rotors flying, we need to limit this Workshop to attendees ages 13 and up, 13-17 year olds require a parent.

Learning To Fly

We are at the point where we need to learn to fly this thing. We will have two mini Hubsan X4 quadcopters to practice flying around a mini obstacle course.

We will have a Flight Simulator operational for you to get a virtual feel of the controls.

Weather (and confidence) permitting, we will try to fly the CTH Quadcopter outside!

If you are interested in learning to pilot a Quadcopter, check out this video overview of the controls: https://vimeo.com/918...   or this one showing some training exercises: https://www.youtube.c...

Building Your RC 'Copter/Plane/Car

In addition. several members will be working on their personal aircrafts. If you have an RC project that needs a kick in the pants, bring it down to CTH. We have all the tools and teamwork you could possibly need to get your project back on track.

Here's the H-frame Quadcopter that the group built and will continue to build:

We even let a fixed wing Slow-Stick airplane join the party!!!

This little 250mm Hovership will be assembled at the March 14th workshop. The frame is 3D Printed, http://www.thingivers... :

Multirotor Workshop

Meetup Events - Wed, 01/21/2015 - 3:04pm

CT Hackerspace & Makerspace

Come build a Quadcopter. Yes, we need you. We will begin building a H-frame Quadcopter, loosely following the free plans made available from Flite Test. There's no cost, just come and have fun, this is open to members and non-members.

Monthly get-togethers will keep the project rolling and allow everyone to learn by doing. We will build the frame, paint it, install the electronics, unravel the mystery of programming the flight controller and eventually learn how to fly the craft.

If you're multirotor project has stalled, bring it on down. We have all the tools you could possibly need and a bunch of hands to get you going again!

In addition. several members will be working on their personal aircrafts.

Here's an H-frame Quadcopter similar to the one we will continue building:
